Jetboil system: Quick Review

What’s is Jetboil:

Jetboil is the original compact, integrated gas stove and still the best because it is lightweight and efficient.

Nature of use:

Jetboil stove is good for simmering. When we have access to boil-in-bag rice, its is easy to cook with the jetboil and very light. Great with tuna or salmon in foil packets.

Best part is that its very compact and functional, as well as very efficient in boiling water or melting snow.

Shortcoming?

However, I like to take pre-cook pasta or rice to my camps that requires slow fire boiling for 5 to 8 minutes; and my stove lacks such a “slow fire” option. The regulator is a kind of “very high // super ultra high” switch, when compared with traditional, open air, camping stoves.

My failed experiments:

Boiling something for more than 8 minutes is going to be a problem with the Jetboil, I tried boiling an egg once with it which was a complete fail.

Actual cooking?

When we want to cook/boil something that has a longer boiling time we use the pot support now. When we can’t use the pot support, we bring food that doesn’t have a long boiling time

Conclusion:

So, in my opinion these are very good for quick meals like mentioned above, or when going for short trip but you do need to boil water for coffee and stuff. I feel it’s more efficient use would be for altitude/ colder conditions and alpinism when you have to melt snow and just boil water to pour into some liofilized podwer, but unsuitable for a little more delicate “cooking” or baking.
